When designing your packaging it is important to keep it simple. There are several reasons, two of those reasons are the cost of all the components involved and the labor required to assemble them. You can see profits go down the drain if you don't keep it simple.

Let's review the basics: You need a Label, Cap, Bottle or Container, and sometimes a shrink band or some sort of Tamper Proof seal. Everything else is extra costs that should be analyzed. Although it is important to present a quality product to the consumer it is equally important to cut costs on such things like labels, cap and bottle designs that only complicate your production.

When taking your product to a Co-Packer/Contract Bottler the first thing that will be questioned and analyzed is the contents of the bottle for the purpose of the filling machine and filling process and then the design of total package. The question will be "How much labor will be involved to produce this product?" The answer can be scary if the total packaging is complicated, for example odd shaped bottles, complicated caps, etc. The bottler is going to consider his Filling Machine, Capping Machine, Labeling Machine and determine if any improvements will be needed for your Bottling and Packaging needs.

So when starting a new line or product remember to keep it simple. Your goal is to introduce your product to the consumer as cost effective as possible. Once your product becomes a brand name then a few simple changes to your products design and look may benefit you. In the meantime start simple and efficient.
